We just migrated IRC transport to Spectrum. Before it was a core feature of ejabberd, the software we use for the Jabber server itself. Spectrum has more features, so we switched.

Yes, single server. No, clustering was not an option as this is a community project and we have to pay for every server. Also it does not make much sense to me in adding hardware to maybe badly programmed server software instead looking for alternative programs.

We had about 100-300 concurrent users on ejabberd. Plus a lot of transport users, where I cannot name the number. ejabberd and Spectrum just took every resource they could get from the system and left nothing. With Prosody this is a lot better – although we are experiencing problems with the load, too. Not general stuff but bugs. The difference to ejabberd is: Prosody has a very very motivated developer team and we fixed a lot of stuff already. I am pretty confident that the server now runs better than before.

I’m in the middle of setting up ejabberd/spectrum 2 currently, and am now wondering if Prosody might be the better choice. How many users did you have on your ejabberd server before you started noticing performance issues?

Sometimes I need to disable messages from twitter.com@twitter.jabber.hot-chilli.net, and I am able to do so using “Log Off” function for the Twitter transport.

The problem is that the transport becomes active again after the client restores from afk or n/a status. Please let me know if that’s transport or client-related problem? I’m using Psi.

Another question: is it possible to implement “/on” and “/off” commands for controlling the incoming messages stream?

Web und Jabber laufen auf der gleichen Maschine. grün und rot ergibt sich aus der Frage, ob der entsprechende Daemon läuft. Das war wohl der Fall... Eine Funktionsprüfung gibt es hier leider (im Moment) nicht.

Es wäre in solchen Fällen dann natürlich gut, wenn eure Statusanzeige in der Sidebar den Ausfall auch anzeigt. Die hat da nämlich nahezu alles “grün” und als up angegeben.

Der Jabberserver und die Transports waren heute leider von 02:00 CET bis um ungefähr 13:00 CET offline. Da hat sich der ejabberd komplett verschluckt. Lief noch, aber nahm nichts mehr an. Da stand dann sicherheitshalber ein Reboot der kompletten Maschine an…

Nun ist aber wieder alles up and running.
