Downtimes Migration Problems Transports

First status information after migration

Ok, the main virtual host jabber.hot-chilli.net and all private virtual hosts moved to the new server today. Also the website and the transport data.

“Transport data” because the transports itself do not run, yet. We need some help from Spectrum maintainers – maybe there is something basicly wrong with the new config files or Spectrum 2 is still too buggy. We will see. Until then please stay tuned and be patient – we do not want to have the transports offline for a long time, but it can take some days.

Also Prosody is having some issues on which we are working hard, especially the maintainer of Prosody, MattJ. Our server is having a lot of load, also “crazy” users ;-) and a Debian system which seems to create more problems with Prosody than other Linux distributions. So if the Jabber server itself is offline from time to time in the next days, we are working on it.

Upgrade to ejabberd 2.1.10

We just upgraded ejabberd to 2.1.10. Therefore the service was down for some minutes. Everything should be up and running again.

Server flatlined third day in a row

At the moment we don’t have any idea why. As I am in Italy right now I will investigate this after my return home in the middle of the week. Please stay tuned.

Is anybody aware of any current exploits for ejabberd?

Upgrade to ejabberd 2.1.6

Finally the Debian package for ejabberd 2.1.6 is available. Therefore we will perform an upgrade to ejabberd 2.1.6 in the next minutes. There will be a short service outage.

Numerous crashes…

…happened the last days. This occured out of nothing. Same symptomatic like some time ago when the Jabber server thread suddenly took all available resources and killed the server itself.

We digged deep into the problem and hope, we found a solution for it – which we implemented about one hour ago. A short service outage took place because of a restart to activate the setting.

Hopefully we got to the problem.

DoS again?

Are we under attack again? It seems – because the server went down yesterday and today. Sorry for the outage, we are looking into the logs as I write this post. Maybe we can find something…

IPv6 reconfiguration

Since our provider now supports native IPv6 (including reverse DNS) we changed our IPv6 configuration and now no longer use an IPv6 Tunnel Broker. Therefore we had two short service outages today to reboot the machine and activate the new settings.

If you are using IPv6 you might have to flush your DNS (or wait up to 24 hours from now) to get the correct IPs back from DNS.

Jabber service outage

There was an outage of our Jabber services the last hours. Unfortunally the hard disk ran completly full because of a faultly backup job.

Everything is back online. Sorry guys!
