openim.de

Yesterday we took over the domain openim.de and the XMPP/Jabber users running on it. The service would have been discontinued at the end of the month and as we think that a takeover is much more in the interest of users, we agreed to the old operator’s proposal. The import of the user accounts and user data took many hours, but everything should be running again by this morning at the latest.

If you don’t want to continue using your openim.de user account on our server, you can delete it yourself here. It is also worth taking a look at our XMPP/Jabber privacy policy. There we also explain what data is stored and for how long. The best way to get support is through our MUC support channel.

We noticed that there are currently many requests with invalid encryption on port 5223. With us, port 5223 (in contrast to the old openim.de server) is only used for Direct TLS (f.k.a. SSL) and not STARTTLS. Please adjust the connection settings in the clients accordingly! Information about our server can be found here.

Further questions? Gladly in the MUC support channel or here under the post as a comment.

New public domain: hot-chilli.im

We just added another public domain to our XMPP/Jabber server: hot-chilli.im

For the future we plan to use this domain as the main domain for both the XMPP/Jabber server and the associated website. For the moment, however, everything remains the same.

Two new public domains: jabb3r.org and jabb3r.de

On the new server we activated two new public domains:

  • jabb3r.org
  • jabb3r.de

Feel free to register accounts. ;-)

In-band registration is open for now (also for the other domains migrated to Prosody already) – and might be changed as soon as possible to our web registration form which has to be changed because of our migration to Prosody.

Moods now also work on secondary domains

We stumbled upon this by accident – moods (or to be precise: everything which Pubsub/PEP offer) did not work on secondary domains.

It works now, it was just a little configuration change. The Pubsub service subdomain (e.g. pubsub.jabber.hot-chilli.eu) has to be the same domain as the Jabber service (e.g. jabber.hot-chilli.eu), not a subdomain of the Jabber server’s primary domain (e.g. jabber.hot-chilli.net).

Proper certificates for secondary domains

To avoid login errors or messages and also to avoid certain problems with server-to-server connections we installed proper certificates for the secondary domains today.

We had to restart the Jabber services several times, sorry. The ejabberd config file isn’t commented very good, also Google didn’t tell us the correct settings in the first place. But everything works fine now.

PS: For old SSL connections to port 5223 there are no dynamic certificates. This just isn’t possible because of how SSL works.

6 hour downtime…

The Jabber server was just recovering from a 6 hour downtime on 9am CEST.

Sorry guys, there was a mistake in the config file due to adding a new Jabber domain to it.

We deeply apologize for the trouble caused.

Virtual Jabber domain hosting

The switch to MySQL was used to test virtual hosts on the Jabber server which works really great.

Next to the primary domain jabber.hot-chilli.net this domain was added for public use:

  • jabber.hot-chilli.eu

Some time later two extra domains for public use were added:

  • hot-chilli.net
  • hot-chilli.eu

We also offer Jabber hosting for private domains.
